In one of my previous posts, I wrote about the powerful ways we can integrate CBD into our morning routine through 2 key angles; mentally and physically. The importance of a strong night time routine is just as crucial as a strong morning routine for boosting our productivity and happiness levels, as well as reducing our stress levels.
Here are my key tips for developing meaningful mental and physical rituals into your night time routine.
One of the most impactful benefits I’ve experienced with CBD is regulating my sleep. From a heavy travel schedule, to an overactive entrepreneurial mind and late night work, I’ve always found it hard to switch off. Many a night has left me wondering if sleep really is mind over matter. In one of my previous posts I analysed whether CBD could really help us sleep better and I found the answer to be a very strong yes! The biggest reason for this is because CBD works in harmony with the body stimulating homeostasis and the endocannabinoid system; a critical function in our bodies responsible for regulating things like sleep, metabolism and our immune system.
Preparing our mind and body to wind down is a ritual in itself and after a nice hemp infused chamomile tea, I run a bath filled with Dr.Ed’s CBD Relief Salts that has 60mg of premium cannabidiol extracts mixed with the soothing essential oils of thyme, rosemary and marjoram. These essential oils also have therapeutic effects to help us sleep and after a day of hard graft, I find this to be an amazing way to switch off, relieving aching muscles and improving blood circulation. I use my bath time to also close my eyes for a 15 minute meditation, slowing down my mind and letting the day melt away. In Japan apparently they say their secret to longevity is through daily bathing!
After a nice relaxing bath, I head over to my bedside table where I keep a bottle of Drop’s CBD oil which is specifically designed for night time use. The oil is full spectrum, which means I get to benefit from all the wonderful terpenes in the hemp plant. Terpenes are the aromatic compound found in plants responsible for the beautiful aromas of things like pines and lavender which also have their own antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. For more information on how terpenes play a key role in CBD head here. Drop’s CBD Oil also contains chamomile, helping to further regulate the circadian rhythm which can so easily be disrupted by technology and travel. A few drops and soon enough my mind is starting to wind down the rhythm of life.
As with the morning routine, a good skincare routine both morning and night is so vital for our health and preserving that youthful glow as our skin slowly but surely embarks upon a very long journey towards dryness, frailty and ruggedness. Whilst it may seem like high maintenance, by refueling our skin everyday with a good cleansing, exfoliation and moisturisation routine, we are maximizing our self-healing properties. A powerful routine is easy and can be implemented within 5 minutes, but as with most things, consistency is what brings results.
CBD is amazing for skin care as it is anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It provides a missing particle that a free radical can bond with, stopping it from going on to cause DNA damage. Skin aging and inflammation go hand in hand and this is where CBD also does wonders to combat oxidative stress. At the moment I’m loving CBDfx’s Face Cleanser to kickstart my night time routine, wiping away the day’s toxicity. Scientists have warned us that even using the tube for one hour in London can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and asthma attacks. The underground is a breeding ground for toxicity, where on average, commuters inhale 10 million toxic particles a minute, including fellow passengers' dead skin cells. Even if we don’t use the tube and walk / cycle / drive, pollution is everywhere so it is absolutely essential that we wipe away the day’s dirt with a good cleanser.
I then apply Leafline’s Rejuvenating CBD Night Cream which has 100mg of cannabidiol, blended with powerful vitamin antioxidants like argan oil, green tea, oat silk, vitamin B5, evening primrose oil, shea butter, arnica and avocado oil to name a few! This cream is amazing as it is filled with natural extracts and oils allowing the skin to hydrate, rejuvenate and restore itself while sleeping.
A healthy morning routine starts the night before and all in all I’ve found my night time routine takes no more than 45 mins of my day. A small amount of time to devote in setting ourselves up for maximum sleep and success!
