This guide will explore how you start incorporating CBD into your daily life and what you should be aware of when buying CBD products, particularly in terms of dosage and strength.
What is CBD?
Within the Cannabis plant you can find many active compounds. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is one very famous activity compound, thanks to its psychoactive properties. Cannabidiol (CBD) is another active compound in the Cannabis plant which does not get you high and is increasing in popularity thanks to its myriad of uses for health, fitness and wellbeing. It is completely legal to use CBD products as it is not psychoactive. In the UK it is now legal to grow hemp plants, manufacture CBD, and sell CBD-related products. This guide will explore how you start incorporating CBD into your daily life and what you should be aware of when buying CBD products, particularly in terms of dosage and strength.
How Can CBD Help Me?
Because CBD is a natural remedy, it stands out as an appealing option for those who are looking to heal and improve the body naturally. We believe there are 5 key reasons in how CBD can help humans:
1. It Can Help With Regulating Sleep
Such a simple word to type, yet sometimes so difficult to achieve in a modern world full of distractions. Managing a healthy work / life balance is no easy feat and whether you find it difficult to sleep because of travel, electronics, loud noises, family etc the list can be endless and an ongoing battle to fight. CBD has a critical ability to work with regulating homeostasis, by binding to key receptors. This in turn helps to return our bodies back to its optimal state, regulating core functions such as sleep. Preparing your mind and body to wind down is a ritual in itself and there are a lot of ways to get creative in making this a part of your bed time routine. Some of our favourites include an invigorating bath with CBD bath salts, a relaxing massage oil infused with CBD and one of our best selling night oils, Dr.Ed’s Calm kept peacefully on the bedtime table. For a deeper read on how CBD can help you with achieving a peaceful night’s sleep, check out our blog post here.
2. It Can Relieve Pain
Whether you get pain from post-workout recovery, back pain or arthritis, physical pain can come at us in many forms and several key studies have shown that CBD can be an incredibly effective tool in combating pain at all different levels. This is because CBD positively impacts the endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation whilst interacting with neurotransmitters. The ability for CBD to reduce inflammation is remarkable. For more in-depth information how CBD works with the complex endocannabinoid system, check out our in-depth article here.
3. It May Help With Reducing Acne
Unfortunately acne affects more than 9% of the global population. Most of us know what it feels like when tough zits that refuse to go away so for those that deal with spots long-term, CBD might be a very effective remedy. This is because of its remarkable anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to reduce sebum production, one of the key factors of acne.
4. It Can Benefit The Health Of Our Heart & Anxiety
A high blood pressure has been linked to alarming risks of increasing health conditions from heart attacks to strokes.
Because of its anti-stress and powerful antioxidant properties that also help in reducing anxiety, CBD can help lower blood pressure and prevent heart damage.
Anxiety and depression is usually treated with addictive pharmaceutical drugs that have a whole host of negative side effects. CBD can be a much better way to naturally treat our bodies while also nourishing and healing our mind.
How do I Use CBD?
CBD can be taken in a variety of forms which can easily fit into your daily routine. From oils to edibles, here are some of our favourite ways to take CBD:
If you’ve never taken CBD before, taking it orally it is a great place to start. Simply drop a few drops under the tongue and you’re good to go e.g. our THC free ERTH Tincture. If you’re feeling more creative you can infuse your favourite recipes with CBD. Dr.Ed has some fantastic terpene blends such as Dr.Ed’s Relief drops which have a delicious citrusy taste.
Taking CBD in a capsule form is a great option for those looking to be extra precise with dosage. Our Love CBD Dutch Capsules contain 5mg per capsule and do not contain any harmful pesticides or chemicals.
One of our favourite ways to enjoy CBD on the go is in a gummy format. They’re affordable, portable, discrete, and tasty. You also know exactly what dosage you’re taking. Our CBD Gummies come in a range of flavours and strengths.
Creams & Gels
If you’re mostly looking to try CBD for muscle aches and pains, a cream or gel is a great option. For example, our icy cooling and calming muscle CBD gel works quickly to target the area of pain and aid recovery. Athletes love them for pain and injury.
There are also CBD infused lip balms, face serums and creams to enrich your skincare routine with all the goodness of CBD.
How Much Should I Take?
Finding the optimal amount of CBD to take will require some trial and error as the scale is different for every body.
The amount of CBD you should take depends on a range of factors, including:
Your body weight
The condition you’re treating
Your individual body chemistry
The concentration of CBD in each pill, capsule, drop, or gummy
The best way to find the right dose for your body is to start with a very low dose (2 mg, for example) and increase it by 2-5 mg per serving until you find the right amount that works for you.
|Weight||Low Strength||Medium Strength||High Strength|
|100 lbs||10 mg||30 mg||60 mg|
|125 lbs||13 mg||38 mg||75 mg|
|150 lbs||15 mg||45 mg||90 mg|
|175 lbs||17 mg||52 mg||105 mg|
|200 lbs||20 mg||60 mg||120 mg|
|225 lbs||22 mg||67 mg||135 mg|
|250 lbs||25 mg||75 mg||150 mg|
Most people use between 10-80 mg of CBD per day, with higher doses for sleep, pain and therapeutic effects.
What is the Difference in CBD Strengths?
If you browse through our online shop, you will see that our products have a range of CBD strengths. This is because CBD products can vary in three main ways of the natural compounds they carry:
Full Spectrum CBD products have all the natural elements of the hemp plant. These items will have CBD, Terpenes (aromatic metabolites found in the oils of all plants giving it a distinctive flavour) and a trace amount (.3%) of natural THC. This is the closest you will find to the natural plant. Full spectrum products also enable the entourage effect which is where the synergy between the CBD, terpenes and trace levels of THC produce greater benefits than isolated THC or CBD on their own.
If you are looking for something without THC (e.g. if you are an athlete worried about drug testing), consider trying broad spectrum or isolate varieties. To learn more about how CBD shows up in drug tests read our previous blog.
Broad Spectrum products have CBD and Terpenes (flavoring cannabinoids) but the THC has been extracted.
The term isolate means that there are no terpenes and no THC, guaranteed. Isolate varieties are made from carefully filtered hemp plant extracts via CO2 extraction. It is tasteless and odourless. This is great for those with very strict THC laws and for those wanting to use CBD in their cooking as this won’t have any flavour. The only real drawback to CBD isolates is that they don’t create the entourage effect.
